Years ago, when I began teaching my then three-year-old son about colors, I started with the primary colors and moved on to the secondary colors. As he learned to recognize colors, he asked, “Mommy, how many colors are there?” I responded, “Color is infinite, meaning that there are so many colors that you can never stop counting them.” At the time, his favorite movie was Toy Story and he loved Buzz Lightyear. So, his response was, “To infinity and beyond!”  I said, “Yes Spencer, you got it!” Color is infinite and therefore making a final decision can be a bit difficult.  

There are many factors involved in selecting color.

 

You need to consider:

Your color preference. How do you want the room to feel? Cool? Warm?

Hue: another term for color. Hues are red, yellow, blue, green, orange….to infinity and beyond!

Value: how light or dark a specific color is.

Saturation: The degree to which a color is mixed with white. Saturated color is pure color.

Lighting: How will your color selection work with the natural and artificial lighting in your home?
